Viagra is touted for making powerhouses in the bedroom. If only there was a Viagra for each area of life, like business. Just pop a pill and…voila!

But we all know it’s not that easy. Making big money takes work. Still, sales can be sexy…right?

If sales has become a grind for you and your sales team — just like this horrible rumor I once heard that  love making may become stale after many years of marriage — then it might be time to spice things up a bit.

Apply some of the characteristics of everyone’s favorite little blue pill to your sales process and get ready to ride that revenue growth like you ride your….okay let’s just get to the tips:

    Demonstrate Staying Power (pun intended)

A crucial element of successful sales and revenue growth is persistence. A sale on first contact is rare, unless you are some kind of carnival barker. Depending on your business, it could take months to hit that closing point, as recent research has shown it now takes an average of 12 contacts before making a sale.

Don’t quit. Keep up that stamina and have a process to follow up with leads through a formal, repeatable sales process.

Demonstrate staying power and you will dominate your quotas.

    Be Sexy

Charisma goes a long way in the sales process. Don’t be the slob of the sales team—be the Adonis. Control the process, exude energy and project an air of authority.

Capture the attention of your sales leads and show them why you are the best choice. Leave them eating out of your palm and eager to come back for more. Sexy selling can be the difference between good performance and smashing your goals.

    Restore the Passion

Natural sellers have a drive for success and relish the challenge of sales. Throw out an apathetic pitch or show signs of indifference and you have lost the sale before you’re even in the door.

Don’t think of this like a job or paycheck—make it your passion. If you have to, spend some time psyching yourself up, like a boxer before a big fight.

When you are passionate about your products and services, potential clients will be as well. Passion is contagious. Best of all, passionate sales teams and passionate leads build brand loyalty—one of the best ways to ensure revenue growth.

Rise to the Occasion (Someone stop me, I’m killin ‘em)

Successful sales people never settle. Blast your quotas this month? Increase it further next time. Uncomfortable with a particular sales tactic? Master it and make it a regular part of your arsenal. Identify sales obstacles, face them head-on and scout out opportunities for growth.

Be ready for battle even if it scares you, and be prepared to perform even if you have a headache.

Do so and you conquer the bedroom…er, boardroom. Make a habit of rising to the occasion and nothing will stand in your way.

    Outperform the Competition

With the rapid pace of business today, you cannot afford to simply be some contact listing in an address book. You want your sales leads to know who you are and what you’re about at a glance. You want them to think of you next time they need a product or service. You want to be their go-to contact and avid fans.

The best way to do this? Outperform the competition.

As an example: when presenting to the C-suite, get intimate with their needs and their personalities to customize your pitch for utmost satisfaction. Be epic and show that you can kick the competition’s ass in every way. Then…deliver. Walk the walk and do what you say you were gonna do and more.

When you show that you know your lead’s needs, care about satisfying them, and know your stuff, you lay the foundations for repeat business and revenue growth.

Trends and tactics evolve, opportunities change and markets fluctuate. Honing your sales skills is an endless process. While there is no pill or secret way to instantly achieve sales success and boost revenue growth, mastering these five traits can be like Viagra for your sales performance.
